Upcoming events:


Whanua day:
The team at  Mātauranga would like to invite parents and whanau to a shared lunch followed by a show from Trixie the Fairy and Wally the Wizard. The whanau day will be held on the 10th of October. Feel free to dress up as your favorite fairy or wizard. For more information feel free to talk to a staff member or visit the whanau page.



Fire safety:
On the 1st of November the fire brigade are coming to visit the centre to talk to the children about fire safety. Free to come along.



Reminders:

Summer.

It feels like our Hawke's Bay winter is coming to an end! The sun is shining which means the children are spending more time outside exploring the outdoor environment. Please remember to bring extra clothing in your child's bag as the children are enjoying water play and exploring the mud pit.


 
 Rotavirus:

As many parents and caregivers are aware rotavirus is going around the centre. Rotavirus is highly contagious. It you think your child may have rotavirus please keep them at home and seek medical advice. If you would like more information surrounding tummy bugs, follow this link.


Birthdays 

Happy birthday to Katie! Katie will be turning 5 this month. We wish her all the best for school.


Staff updates:

Congratulations to Hannah who gave birth to a healthy baby boy on August the 24th. Both mother and baby are doing well.

Welcome John
We would like to welcome John to our teaching team. John has a bachelor in Early Childhood Education and has a background in sport. John is very excited to get to know all our children and their families.



Recipe of the month.  
This month's recipe from Ethel (Layla’s Granny).


Fruit Crisps:
Ingredients:
100g of caster sugar.
A selection of thinly sliced pears, pineapple, orange, lemon, apple and banana.
Method:
Preheat the oven to 60'c
Pour 500mls of water and sugar into pan and bring to a boil.
Place fruit in syrup and boil for 3-4 minutes. Drain and cool.

Arrange the fruit onto an oven tray and place baking sheet paper on top of the fruit.

Bake on low for six hours or until dried out.
